La Merced De Campo

Yerba mate is a traditional Latin American drink that's become popular around the world as a bold-flavored pick me up. Regular mate drinkers point out that it has the power of coffee, the health benefits of tea, and the addictive joy of chocolate. La Merced De Campo is a deluxe style of yerba maté that anyone can enjoy.

From Argentina

Grown on the plains near Corrientes, a colonial city in the north eastern part of Argentina, La Merced De Campo is part of a limited harvest of yerba mate leaves. In the classic Argentinean manner, it is cut with stems and aged for 12 months. It has an earthy and easy to drink taste.

The Mate Tradition

Very often in Argentina, and in other Latin American countries, mate shared by a circle of friends to express solidarity and friendship. In this social ritual the mate cup is passed around the circle, each person taking a sip.  Just as often however, mate can be enjoyed individually as a personal indulgence.

How To Prepare Mate

La Mercad De Campo Yerba Mate leaves can be made into a drink using medium hot water (not boiling, but not lukewarm either - the goal is to not burn the leaves). It is traditionally served in a covered cup with a bombilla, or metal straw, for sipping.  Typically, hot water is kept in a flask or kettle and used to refresh the mate leaves over the course of several hours.

Health Benefits

Yerba mate contains saponins, natural glucoside compounds with anti-inflammatory qualities.  In addition, it contains small amounts of vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, and zinc, all antioxidants that can strengthen your immune system and promote good health. People who drink mate love the way it helps them both to relax and to focus.

Yerba mate is a comforting drink and ritual to enjoy anytime.  Le Merced de Campo Yerba Mate brings aged quality and a hint of sophistication to that daily ritual.
