‘CBSé Guaraná Energy’ is part of their ‘Functional line’, that was launched in 2007. The idea was to create distinct blends of yerba mate, herbs and extracts that would cater to a specific need, such as helping with digestion, to lose weight, etc. In the case of CBSé Guaraná Energy, the aim is to provide a boost of energy – even more than regular yerba mate would.

CBSé Guaraná Energy contains yerba mate with stems (‘yerba con palo’ in Spanish) and it is flavored with herbs such as lemon verbena, and guarana extract.

Yerba mate has a mix of two main components: dehydrated, toasted and cut leaves; and stems, which can also be cut. The percentage of these determines the category of the yerba mate, and the limits are defined by each country. In Argentine, the Codigo Alimentario (updated in 2018) establishes that Yerba mate con palo has to have a minimum of 65% of leaves (usually around 70%) and a maximum of 35% of stems (usually around 30%).

Yerba mate con palo is generally great for beginners for its softer taste (compared with mate without stems), and ease of use.

Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is a berry native of the Amazon basin in Brazil. As with mate, it has been consumed for centuries by the local population – in this case, by Amazonian tribes. Nowadays, Guarana is included in energy drinks and sodas and is a very well known, very popular flavor. Besides its distinctive taste, Guarana is famous because it contains, ‘an impressive range of stimulants’ including caffeine. It also ‘boats antioxidants such as tannins, saponins, and catechins, which puts the berry at a similar level than green tea.

Lemon verbena is also from South America and it has a variety of benefits, including an immunity boost, help with digestion and as an anxiety reliever.

CBSé Guaraná Energy is gluten-free.
